Hallo! My name is Kelly. I grew up in New Orleans, LA. I married my husband Billy in Oct 2000 in N.O. We have three children and have moved from Abita, Springs, Louisiana to Stuttgart, Germany. This is something we have dreamed about and it is our first expat experience. I hope everyone enjoys reading about our adventures because I am very excited to share.

Oktoberfest aka Volksfest

Actual Date: September 29

This year we were FINALLY able to attend the much anticipated Oktoberfest. Well, in Munich, the original place, about 2 hours from here it is the Oktoberfest but Stuttgart has one also known as Volksfest. Stuttgart is the only other town that attracts millions of visitors for the same type of Fest at the same time of year. They are both filled with beer tents, which aren't actually even tents. They have large wooden type buildings, you will see in the pictures, that the insides are shaped like tents. You must have a ticket to enter and your ticket will get you 3 liters of beer and half of a rotisserie chicken. Inside the tent you will find a band and people in their Drindls and lederhosen dancing on the tables, it is very lively. Now, 3 liters of beer is a good bit but Billy and I wanted an extra beer to share, the beers were 9€ a piece! not cheap.
We debated and debated and decided against paying the astronomical prices on the German outfits since it was our first Fest. I am glad that we did, although they would be fun, they are not necessary. At some point Billy insists we must all get them so we will see. I would have to find them cheaper than I've seen.
When you enter the Fest it is like a huge carnival , there are rides and booths everywhere. They did have some really cool rides and it was definitely larger than ANY fair I have ever been to but it was way overpriced. There is no pay one price, you pay for each person at each ride. All of us, 5, ride a ride and it was 15€, almost $20, one ride, so like 90 seconds!!!!!!!
Every ride the kids rode was 4-5€ per person per ride. Literally, Disneyworld is more affordable. Unfortunately, the kids had a blast but that is the only visit we will make to the Fest this year. This is a 3 week event and ends this Sunday, the 13th. Thank God there are so many other things to do.
I am not trying to make it sound bad but honestly it's not worth it.
