Hallo! My name is Kelly. I grew up in New Orleans, LA. I married my husband Billy in Oct 2000 in N.O. We have three children and have moved from Abita, Springs, Louisiana to Stuttgart, Germany. This is something we have dreamed about and it is our first expat experience. I hope everyone enjoys reading about our adventures because I am very excited to share.

First Skiing Adventure

Actual Date: January 19 & 20

At the very last minute Billy decided we needed to take the kids and head to Austria and go skiing.  I am always game for a trip so I got right to planning.  We had some friends that had mentioned the Ehrwald/Lermoos area is great for beginners, so we of course chose that.  Not to mention it is only about a 2 hour drive from our front door:)

We left on Sunday morning and were there by lunch.  We call our first day the "feel" it out day.  Check out the lifts, the schools and decide exactly where we want to go in the morning.  We were hoping to do night tobogganing, but it wasn't available.  It has been kind of a rough winter here, not as much snow as normal:(
We checked into our B&B and were pleasantly surprised, it was massive.  We had no clue, we reserved the family suite but thought it was a living room area with a sofa sleeper and a bedroom with bunk beds and a regular bed for us.  We were surprised to find massiveness.  2 bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and bunk beds and another bedroom with a king sized bed and a private balcony and a separate bathroom:)
Also, a living room and a full kitchen with yet another balcony.
This was our view from the living room
So....... I tried and tried to convince Billy the kids needed lessons or they would be miserable, he has never been skiing, and he was convinced we would just play around on the skiis and let everyone get a feel for the sport.  I didn't let up all evening then I just had enough and figured ok, well everyone will hate it but whatever!!! Shockingly he woke up in the morning and when I asked what slope we were heading to he said "the kids are going to ski school" and let me tell you he did not regret that decision.
They went to school from 9-4 and it was a private lesson for just the three of them.

Billy and I decided to get lift tickets and go to the top and hang out.  We took pictures, played around and had a drink
Gluhwein:) hot mulled wine! Yum!!

All the skiers:)

At the end of the day Billy was determined to go down at least a small hill, against my better judgement I watched://////
He started ok then he tumbled and a ski flew off.  He picked him up when to the next cliff and down again, that time not so bad though.  Long story short, he made himself fall because he was afraid he would not be able to stop:/
He has also said we will be returning for a week and we will do a few days of ski lessons.
The kids picked it up and were doing amazing .

Our trip ended with our car not starting, luckily there was a Toyota dealership right around the corner, we walked there and had 3 minutes til closing.  The guy came back and jumped our car and let us know that he had no batteries that would fit our car but we should make it home.  Well, not only did we make it home, we bought a battery the next day and never had another issue until yesterday, 2 weeks later.  The car didn't start at home yesterday morning, no big deal.  Last night Billy popped the new battery in and Wah Lah!!! Back in business:) such luck that we were not stranded somewhere when it decided to not start up.

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!!

Kelly
